Are you a Tango-dancing spy, that is searching suitcase No.347 with very suspicious contents in Nice, Havanna or Moscow in 1972? Are you wearing your best white linen suite doing the cha-cha-cha in Rico's Bar or would you recognize the legendary 'rat pack' in a 60ies nightclub in Las Vegas creating a "swingfood mood"?
No, this is not a James Bond movie, not even a Humphrey Bogart classic in Casablanca, neither a cotton plant in the Southern States in the 'Summertime', nor is it "Avenue du Gare" where you smoke your last cigar... Keep cool - it's just the film in your head!
Or maybe just simply wallpaper your home bar on the South Cape or your Westend chillout-lounge with the right sound? A retro-modern "Cocktail d'Amour" of swing, bossanova, lounge-latin and ambient jazz elements.
to be continued: There are more stories to tell about those films in your head, whether enjoying a White Russian on the north Cape, or smuggling those priceless female vocal recordings out of Napoli, or to hitch a ride to Pili-Pili. Right now...our lips are sealed. But Tape Five will live on, so watch this space!

Nidia Ortiz from the Dominican Republic creates with her incisive and lyrical voice a delightful summer-like Caribbean atmosphere. Brenda Boykin, the jazz lady from California (Bammie nomination 1997 for Best vocalist of the Year / Montreux Jazz Festival Award Winner 2005/ supporting Al Jarreau and Club des Belugas), deliberately decided to collaborate with Rodrigo Sanchez and seduces the audience again with her extraordinary souly-jazzy voice. Rodrigo Sanchez remixes - Bah Samba (vocals Alice Russell) and Sandboy, two respected stars of the Latin-Lounge and Nu-Jazz scene, perfect for this album. You will never have enough of it!

This extremely shy artist is one of the main members of Club des Belugas. She's a songwriter for CdB & Jojo Effect, but she is also a highly respected solo artist in her own right.
Two of her solo tracks that you can find are on Café del Mar vol. 13 & 14, she's also released tracks under the name of "Papa Cobana" and "Eccoload".

Jojo Effect was founded in November 2005 by the German producers and multi instrumentalists Jaycay (Color Blind, Expo's Jazz & Joy, Makoma) and Maxim Illion (Club des Belugas), and the two fantastic vocalists of Anne Schnell and Brenda Boykin.
In Germany Anne Schnell is also well known for her work as a TV actress and model. The Californian jazz lady Brenda Boykin is a highly respected vocalist. She already works with Club des Belugas and Al Jarreau, just to name a few. In 1997 she had a "Bammy" nomination as Best Singer, in 2005 she received the award for best vocalist at the "Montreux Jazz Festival".
The style of Jojo Effect's music is High quality Lounge, flavoured with Bossa and Jazz "When we started to work on the album, we prayed that "Not with me" might be successful. We never imagined that it would be such a huge success as it was" (Jaycay) Accordingly the album was available worldwide in spring 2007.
It was album of the month (January 2007) on RADIO WDR 5, album of the month (November 2006) on RADIO Frei, album of the week (November 2006) on RADIO MONTE CARLO, Heavy Rotation on IBIZA GLOBAL RADIO, Top Ten best selling albums 2006 in Germany's retailer shops www.shirokko.de.

Club des Belugas is one of the leading lounge & nujazz projects in Germany, perhaps in Europe. They combine Contemporary European Lounge & Nujazz Styles with Brazilian Beats and American Black Soul of the fifties, sixties and seventies, using their unique creativity and intensity.
Main members are Maxim Illion & Kitty the Bill, with such exquisite guest vocalists as the Californian Jazz Lady Brenda Boykin, Swedish singer anna.luca, London based Jazz singer Iain Mackenzie, Anne Schnell from Jojo Effect, Ferank Manseed from Newcastle/UK, Dean Bowman from New York, trumpeter Reiner Winterschladen (Nighthawks) and trumpet player Thomas Siffling.

Club des Belugas started their career in 2002 with their first album "Caviar at 3 a.m."
In 2003 they released their 2nd album "Minority Tunes", which included the German Club Charts no.1 hits "hiphip chinchin" and "Gadda Rio".
In 2006 Club des Belugas enriched the world of music with a real masterpiece called "apricoo soul". The 12" vinyl "Wildcats gotta move" reached German Club Charts #3 and stayed in the Top Ten for 8 weeks (march & april 2006). The Album included Club des Belugas' Remix of Dean Martin's "Mambo Italiano" and was the first worldwide legal remix of any Dean Martin track, authorized by Capitol/EMI and the Dean Martin Family themselves !!!

Brenda Boykin, the voice of Club des Belugas

One of the great contemporary jazz singers. To say it with Lee Hildebrand's (music critic and music historian) words: "the most authentic and most creative voice of this generation."
Brenda Boykin used to live in San Francisco until 2004. Since then she lives in Wuppertal, Germany.
She has performed at many of the famous jazz festivals like the Monterey Jazz Festivals, San Francisco Blues Festivals, DuMaurier Jazz Festivals in Vancouver, Umbria Jazz Festivals and the Montreux Jazz Festival (which she was awarded best vocalist in 2005), she also has performed in Mexico, France, New Zealand, Japan and of course thousands of times in the USA and Germany.
1997 she received a BAMMY nomination for "Best vocalist of the Year".
Since 2005 she's working with the German Nu-Jazz Project "Club des Belugas"
Brenda Boykin's solo album "chocolate and chilli", which has been released in October 2008, has been chosen by BBC among the best albums of the year 2008.

Bajka, the singer/songwriter with that unique voice - the one you recognize immediately and will never forget... releases her first solo album "Bajka in Wonderland" in 2010 on ChinChin Records. Her name means fairytale in slavic, she was born in India, grew up in South Africa and has been releasing music for almost 15 years, doing feature colabs for artists like Bonobo, Radio Citizen, Beanfield, etc.. Fortunately you can now listen to a remarkable and outstanding musical vision, an album with eleven tracks! This was made possible through the coóperation with the producer and composer team Daniel Regenberg and Jerker Kluge, both profiled Jazz musicians with a long list of projects and recordings of their own, with the capacity to organise a production of such an outstanding project.
The theme of the 11 piece Jazz album is derived from " The Hunting of the Snark", a classic book of poems written by Lewis Caroll, author of"Alice in Wonderland". The musicians wrote a song for every chapter of the poem, covering the essence of the whole opus.
The core group is Bajka (vocals), Daniel (piano,rhodes) and Jerker (double bass).The lyrical and musical theme is a metapher for the sub conscious search of subjective happiness in life. This, supported by the superb drummer Philipp Bernhardt and played in a jazzy way, adding funk, hip hop, latin, soul and a superb string quartet and horn section (flutes and saxes), additionally contributes to the ageless,dreamlike quality of this unique release. The enchanting cover and booklet artwork was created by Chiara and Bajka.
By deriving these lyrics and composing their very own theme with this creative orchestration, they´ve created an outstanding "album". You can listen to it from start to finish,following the different moods that are evoked by the music while enjoying the whole recording as a coherent work of art. This is an album in the classical meaning, a timeless piece of artwork that stands up for itself with its unique style.
 
Bajka's album "in Wonderland" will be released on ChinChin Records as a remix album called "Escape from Wonderland" at September 17, 2010.
