Alexander Polishchuk
CONDUCTOR
Alexander Polishchuk was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1960.
He performs and tours regularly with the most important Russian orchestras and opera theatres, such as the legendary Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Mariinsky Theatre and Russian National Orchestra.
He is currently Principal Guest Conductor of the Ukrainian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Kiev, and Resident Conductor at the St. Petersburg House of Music in Russia.
Polishchuk graduated Kiev Conservatory in 1983 as a choral Conductor; and from the Leningrad Conservatory in 1991 as an orchestral Conductor - following a long line of distinguished students of Professor Ilya Musin: V.Gergiev, J.Temirkanov, S.Bichkov etc.
In 1988 he was a prize-winner at the All-Union Conductors’ Competition in the USSR.
Polishchuk's work internationally includes a new production at Royal Opera House in Covent Garden; Netherlands Radio Philharmonic; in 1998 he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of London.
He has appeared at many of the most important international festivals including the “Stars of the White Nights” festival in St. Petersburg, “P.Casals Festival” in France.
A much sought-after conductor in his home city of St Petersburg, Polishchuk has held positions with many of the city's orchestras. These include Resident Conductor of the Mussorgsky Opera & Ballet Theatre (now the St. Petersburg Mikhailovsky Theatre) from 1989 to 1991, Principal Conductor of the St. Petersburg Municipal Symphony Orchestra from 1991 to 1996, and from 1996 Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the St. Petersburg State City Symphony Orchestra.
In 2001 Polishchuk was named Principal Guest Conductor of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra, where he founded the Festival Orchestra Project of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Society for touring abroad.
A versatile musician, Alexander Polishchuk’s breadth of repertoire is wide-ranging, whether conducting ballet, operatic or symphonic repertoire. Since 1989 A.Polishchuk has toured in the USSR and Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Great Britain, France, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Portugal, Singapore, Hungary, Ukraine and other countries.
His recent activities include: concerts at Festival of Culture of countries-ShOS (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation), EvrAzES (June 2011, Kazakhstan), Young-Euro-Classic (Berlin, Aug 2011) with Youth Philharmonic of Russland; Concerts at the Summit ASEAN + “Great 8” (Indonesia, Nov.2011); concert at Musikverein (Vienna) with Orchestra “the Wiener Concert-Verein” (April 2012) etc.
